Embedded Systems Academy offers a one day hands-on training class introducing Real-Time Operating Systems concepts and why their usage has become more and more important for many applications. The class includes practical sessions with RTOS froms a variety of manufacturers such as Keil and Micrium.

There are many embedded applications that are and still get implemented without the usage of an RTOS. However, with processors becoming more powerful and the continous increase of functionality and connectivity like USB and LAN their usage makes more and more sense.

Topics covered during the workshop include:

• Introduction to Real-Time Operating Systems
• Benefits of off-the-shelf middleware
• Getting Started with an RTOS
• Comparison between RTOS vendors
• Hands on exercises: creating and using tasks, signals, semaphores and mailboxes
• RTOS debugging
