µVISION DEBUGGER: System and Thread Viewer doesn't support RTXv5

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

• Keil MDK 5.21 and newer 
• CMSIS Pack 5.0.0 and newer versions (RTOS v2 APIs)

QUESTION

Previously I used System and Thread Viewer debug feature for projects using CMSIS-RTOS v1 (Keil RTX v4.x). 

After switching to use CMSIS-RTOS v2 (Keil RTX v5.x) in my project, System and Thread Viewer in debug session stays blank.

How can I make System and Thread Viewer work with RTX v5?

ANSWER

The System and Thread Viewer debug window doesn't support debugging CMSIS-RTOS v2 (Keil RTX v5.x).

As an alternative to System and Thread Viewer, in Keil MDK versions newer than 5.21 you can use Component Viewer 'RTX RTOS' to debug projects using CMSIS-RTOS v2 (Keil RTX v5.x), as shown in this screenshot.
