The SOAP protocol, originally defined as Simple Object
Access Protocol, is a simple XML-based protocol to let
applications exchange information over HTTP. It is used by Microsoft
Silverlight web service application.
SOAP is for communication between applications. It is
important for application development to allow Internet communication
between programs. A better way to communicate between applications is
over HTTP, because HTTP is supported by all Internet browsers and
servers. SOAP provides a way to communicate between
applications running on different operating systems, with different
technologies and programming languages.
With the Microsoft Silverlight and SOAP it is possible to produce
some cutting edge user interfaces. The SOAP objects are used
as the replies from the Embedded Web server to generate the classes
at the Silverlight application.
