These instructions tell you how to configure your Windows dial-up
connection so you can connect to a system that uses a serial PPP
link or a SLIP link.
The PPP link is preferable because it provides link control
protocol, IP address negotiation, and user
authentication. All these features are not available in a SLIP
link. SLIP is a simple protocol over the serial line. It was widely
used with UNIX systems in the past.
